WWF Hungary is seeking to recruit a dynamic, reliable and committed

project manager for large carnivore conservation (full-time, based in Budapest)

The main responsibility of this position is to coordinate and implement the large carnivore (lynx, wolf, bear) conservation activities and the related projects at WWF Hungary, including EUROLARGECARNIVORES project.

Furthermore this position will contribute to WWF’s wildlife programme and communication in Hungary. This includes development and management of various projects, advocacy and expertise for resolving human-wildlife conflicts, fostering permanent return of these species and networking with diverse groups of relevant stakeholders.

The project manager for large carnivore conservation reports to WWF Hungary conservation director and is based in Budapest.

Your duties will include:
I. Major responsibilities under the ongoing LIFE project on large carnivore species
The project manager for large carnivore conservation will coordinate, implement and report all the actions of WWF Hungary, especially:
• technical and administrative management of the project as project partner;
• extensive stakeholder engagement and networking (hunter, farmers, local citizens, various decision makers, etc..)
• identification and introduction of best practices for the resolution of various human-wildlife conflicts and efficient population monitoring;
• wildlife related policy and advocacy;
• analysis and application of scientific data, extensive networking with research;
• participation in all communication actions including the appearences in media;
• relationship management with project partners and the WWF network.


II. Major responsibilities under other aspects of the widlife programme
• Developing, implementing and reporting large carnivore conservation and communication projects to various EU funds;
• Contributing to the development of wildife programme;
• Representing on events, conferences, workshops related to the field of expertise;
• Representing WWF position for different stakeholders;
• Building and maintaining partnerships with relevant stakeholders and allies;
• Monitoring, reporting and evaluating progress and results.
We expect from you:
• Corresponding university degree or post-graduate degree (nature/environmental sciences or related technical/engineering fields).
• Expertise in the field of wildlife/nature protection and/or research.
• At least 3 years of work experience, including working with stakeholders.
• General understanding of environmental challenges and the social, economic and political processes interlinked with them.
• Expertise in large carnivore research and/or wildlife management is a strong advantage.
• Experience in managing and implementation of EU projects is a plus.
• Excellent networking skills, good organizational and interpersonal skills, with ability to function in a multi-cultural environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in Hungarian and English, ability for clear, simple and structured public communication incl. adjusting messages to audience.
• Proactive, self-starter, quick learner, team player.
• Ablility to work with national and international WWF teams, as well as independently.
• Project management skills: timely implementation, ability to plan and coordinateparallel activities with several participants, accurate in administration.
• Passion and dedication to WWF’s mission.
