The low-lying Dutch have an international reputation for “living with water," maintain the highest flood safety standards in the world, and have not flooded since 1953. Climate change projections inspired the government to launch a national program making space for rivers. In an era of adaptation, what can the United States learn from the Netherlands? Meanwhile, in the United States, in 1933 the Corps of Engineers gave space back to the Sacramento River to save lives, farms, and cities. The "bypass" provides successful fish and bird habitat, and is also active agricultural land. In the epoch of “dry feet,” what can the Dutch learn from the U.S.?
